Duties

As a Power System Electrician, your duties will include: Working from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to install new systems or equipment and diagnose and repair trouble in existing electrical systems and equipment. Applying knowledge of various types and sizes of wires/cables, conduits, transformers, and other electrical equipment and circuit elements, and the skill to integrate them into electrical systems and equipment worked on to ensure proper operation. Troubleshooting overhead and underground cable systems to locate short circuits, open circuits, grounds, crosses, electrolysis damage, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks. Using hot-line tools and protective equipment such as wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, insulated hoods/covers and tools, and rubber gloves, sleeves, and insulating blankets. Interpreting circuit diagrams to perform troubleshooting, installation, modification, and repair on high voltage distribution systems (i.e., repairing switchgear and/or isolating defects in cabling). Calibrating and testing circuit breakers and protection relays. Performing other related duties as assigned.

Journey level is defined as having 4 or more years of directly related work experience OR successfully completing a 4-year apprenticeship training program. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Working Conditions: Requires the ability to safely and efficiently work alone and with others. Work is performed indoors and outdoors with some exposure to inclement weather conditions and walking over varied terrain. Works in the vicinity of energized and high voltage sources and moving equipment. Some work is performed in confined spaces. Works on or near materials that may contain asbestos and Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Subject to exposure to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, noise, fumes, vapors, and works on hard damp floors or ground. Wears personal protective equipment as required to meet occupational health and safety standards. Subject to wearing a respirator. May be required to travel to remote locations. Physical Effort: Requires the ability to safely and efficiently perform the physical requirements of the position. Routinely lifts, carries, and moves moderately heavy loads weighing up to 50 pounds, and loads weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. Nature of work requires the ability to push, pull, bend, reach, walk, stand, kneel, squat, climb scaffolding and ladders, work overhead and at heights. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements by 04/12/2024.
