Major Duties
Position serves as one of two Deputy Regional Directors overseeing the operations of the Region as assigned by to the Regional Director and shares fully in the responsibility to provide leadership and direction to the strategic planning, management, and operation of the National Park Service, Interior Region 2 (formerly Southeast Region).
Ability to assume a management role, aiding, guiding, and encouraging people toward achieving a common goal.
Ability to apply strategic thinking, creating specific strategies, implementing them, and evaluating the results.
Apply planning skills, conceptualizing the major alternatives to be considered in managing regional and park operations with organizational vision.
Apply problem solving skills, including analysis, creativity, prioritization, organization, and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with others effectively to reach a shared objective, creating a positive working atmosphere and supporting others to combine individual strengths to enhance team performance.
Area Information
Atlanta, Georgia is a major metropolitan city with a population of approximately 496,461. Atlanta enjoys many annual events and festivals, has substantial health care facilities, spectator sports, restaurants, and many different attractions such as the APEX Museum, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, history centers, walking tours and many public parks, etc. Several colleges and universities call Atlanta home, such as the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. Housing is available in the city, either rental properties or homes to purchase, as well as in the surrounding area, just outside the city limits, but within commuting distance.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-15 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: directing the full range of activities and programs carried out in a large park, grouping of parks, or similar operations. Providing advisory consultation services and evaluation, policy development and strategic planning for any of the several program areas such as resource, research and science management, administration, facilities management, interpretation, lands and planning services, communication services, human resources, training and development, and employee and labor relations. Leading a complex regional, state, or national organization to implement management plans and programs related to these programs. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
