Duties

Response Readiness and Operational Preparedness: Maintains vehicles, equipment, and ready packs following checklists and schedules. Performs inventories and generates purchase requests to maintain EMS supplies. Evaluates needs for additional equipment to enhance the efficiency and quality of patientcare and provider safety. Maintains, analyzes, and presents collected data for use in continually enhancing emergency medical care and response to the highest standards. Participates in Structure Fire training to maintain currency and professional standards. Responds to incidents as part of a structural fire engine company or as an EMS response, including but not limited to hazardous materials, vehicle accidents and entrapments, structure fires, vehicle fires, aircraft landings, fire alarms, and confined space rescues. Incumbent operates firefighting apparatus and equipment in accordance with current standards and/or provides emergency medical care during structure fire responses as needed. Emergency and Clinical Operations: Performs primary and secondary patient assessments. Determines the nature, extent, and seriousness of the patient's condition. Identifies and treats trauma and medical emergencies using advanced knowledge of emergency medical techniques, topographic anatomy, and major body systems. Identifies the signs and symptoms of life-threatening and non life-threatening trauma and medical injuries. Provide appropriate advanced treatment as outlined in applicable EMS protocols at the scene, during transport, or until care is transferred. Assist with moving, lifting, and carrying patients to emergency vehicles. Perform patient triage during multi casualty incidents. Properly utilizes legal aspects of EMS when providing care. Respond to emergency calls by vehicle, helicopter, boat, horse, or foot utilizing a knowledge of local roads, park lands, and adjoining response areas. Safely operate emergency medical vehicles under all weather and traffic conditions. Training and Quality Assurance: Leads EMS training instruction and precepts new EMS providers. Plans and executes EMS training targeted at maintaining the certificates and credentials of EMS providers (>120 persons) in the park. Participates in the EMS quality assurance program and conducts EMS chart audits. Reviews latest EMS literature and proposes updates to protocols and procedures. Maintains certification as an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor and provides CPR/AED training and helps manage the park's AED program. Communications: Communicates orally and in writing with medical and public safety personnel, using extensive skill in emergency communication techniques and operating communication equipment. Orally reports in a clear and concise manner patient assessment and treatment administered. Contacts appropriate personnel when in route, arriving, and departing the scene. Prepares written documentation of patient care activities that is thorough and accurate according to local procedures. Utilizes the Incident Command System (ICS) as applicable when responding to complex, multi-agency calls and/ or Mass Casualty Incidents (MCI). Adheres to the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and confidentiality policies. Applies knowledge of cultural differences to provide medical care that is sensitive to and consistent with cultural values, beliefs, and customs. As qualified may serve as part of the wildland fire brigade, search and rescue team, and other all hazard response teams including command positions. May provide public outreach on preventative SAR, community health, and paramedicine. A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/12/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Applicants must meet the following to qualify: Current Paramedic certification/licensure through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) obtaining patient vital signs and performing venipuncture and initiating intravenous (IV) therapy; 2) using various types of medical emergency equipment (e.g., EKG, telemetry/defibrillator, suction, etc.); 3) determining the basic causes and medical implications of closed and open soft tissue wounds; and 4) stabilizing patients per established protocols. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: \Successful completion of at least one (1) full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education from an accredited college or university with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resource, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance to do the work of this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successfully completed a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resource, which provided me with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance to do the work of this position, and I meet one of the following requirements for Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level: 1) Class standing -- Graduated in the upper third of the class based on completed courses in the college, university, or major subdivision; 2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.)2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 scale as recorded on official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. (Note: A copy of your transcript is required as documented proof of your GPA, class standing, or election to honor society membership.) -OR- A COMBINATION OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards a graduate degree and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
