This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Library Technician you will be responsible for providing materials, information, and research services required for instruction and learning at the post-secondary level.

Duties

As a Library Technician GS-1411-5/6/7, your typical work assignments may include the following: Organize the circulation system and patron services involving lower graded library technicians and student library workers. Resolve data related problems regarding registration, overdue books, circulation, loans, damage, etc. Perform technical functions or quasi-professional assignments of substantial variety. Locate and determine proper source for ordering a variety of materials for the university library. Prepare a variety of statistical and narrative reports, budget spread sheets, memorandums, vouchers, requisitions, action requests, letters and other correspondence.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-5: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal service that includes: Use integrated library systems, databases, and other computer software applications; perform circulating duties in a library setting; assist the Librarian with coordinating training; assist with conducting inventory of library materials; provide technical and administrative support to the Library; communicate effectively other than in writing; provide effective customer service; sort incoming mail. - OR - Successfully completed four (4) years of education above high school. - OR - Combination of education and experience: Successfully completed post-high school education; education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (beyond the 2nd year) is creditable towards the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. GS-6: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service that includes: Use integrated library systems, databases, and other computer software applications; perform circulating duties in a library setting; assist the Librarian with coordinating training; conduct inventory of library materials; provide technical and administrative support to the Library; communicate effectively other than in writing; provide effective customer service; sort incoming mail; assist with overseeing student workers. GS-7: 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal service that includes: have knowledge of library processes and procedures to identify, analyze, and correct problems with library materials; perform circulating duties in a library setting; use integrated library systems, databases, and other computer software applications; communicate effectively other than in writing; provide effective customer service; maintain purchasing contracts and expenditures for equipment, supplies, and materials; oversee student workers and other staff. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Education
