Duties

WHAT IS THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION (CI)DIVISION? A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Criminal Investigation, Field Offices. The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. Inspectional/Technical Support Provides technical support the inspection and investigation of criminal tax violations. For example, pursuant to research request, the incumbent plans and conducts research on all database systems and other government systems, public sources, and/or private industry systems to obtain any data pertaining to the request to include lead/subject and analyzes the information. Assembles, organizes, and processes raw data and prepares a summary which can be a report, chart, graph, spreadsheets, or any other means to explain the research results. Utilizing a relevant software, converts bank statements into a reconciled spreadsheet and enters checks and deposit items when requested. Verifies accuracy and classification of entries and provides feedback accordingly. Assists special agents with trial preparation by reviewing testimony of witnesses; indexing data and preparing analyses of evidence and supporting documentation to be presented during trial; coordinating appearances of witnesses, by locating, transporting in Government-Owned Vehicles (GOVs). Assists with visual aids, note taking and assists special agents in grand jury proceedings. May give testimony at trials; maybe called upon to testify as a corroborative witness. Assists on project research and development. Maintains and updates databases and tracking spreadsheets as required. Participates in approved enforcement actions according to current policy, including on scene search warrant assistance utilizing applicable software for data entry of seized evidence. Manages workload and communicates with special agents and supervisory investigative analyst regarding assignments. Maintains an equipment sign out sheet for the unassigned equipment to assist the SSA/special agents. Provides support with the annual equipment inventory and validation of inventory with the special agent(s). Research procedural questions in the Internal Revenue Manual and other informative databases, both public and private. Provides substantial investigative support regarding a fugitive investigation will be requested by the special agent, fugitive coordinator, or by the SIA. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in as little as three years.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-5: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes positions in full time remittance processing function, such as preparing certificates of deposits; technical support to inspections or investigations such as searching for, gathering, screening, and providing factual information or explanations related to the subject of an inspection or investigation or to the compliance program itself. The work includes activities such as obtaining background information on subjects of inspections or investigation by means of record searches, structured interviews, automated information retrieval, telephone inquiries, or correspondence. OR EDUCATION: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes providing technical support to inspections or investigations such as searching, gathering, screening, and providing factual information or explanations related to the subject of an inspection or investigation or to the compliance program itself. The work must have included activities such as obtaining background information on subjects of inspections or investigation by means of record searches, structured interviews, automated information retrieval, telephone inquiries, or correspondence; and the ability to clearly and concisely express facts and conclusions to summarize data obtained from various sources. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes providing technical support to inspections or investigations such as searching, gathering, screening, and providing factual information or explanations related to the subject of an inspection or investigation or to the compliance program itself. The work includes activities such as obtaining background information on subjects of inspections or investigation by means of record searches, structured interviews, automated information retrieval, telephone inquiries, or correspondence; and the ability to be persuasive and apply interview techniques to obtain necessary information.
