Duties
As a Safety and Occupational Health Manager you will:
Serve as a technical authority in making significant and far-reaching decisions or recommendations in the development, interpretation, or application of the principal agency safety and occupational health policies for comprehensive life safety, occupational health, and fire protection program.
Provide expert advice and assistance on a wide variety of safety and occupational health issues and program areas relative to the planning and implementation of safety programs and activities for employees regarding the full range of health, environmental, and safety policies and procedures.
Serve as an expert advisor to management on issues of life safety, occupational health, and fire protection ensuring all operations are conducted in a safe and secure environment, and all employees receive required initial, annual, and site-specific training related to the operations, processes and practices performed in support of operations.
Establish and maintain continuing liaison and cooperative relationships with employer organizations, labor unions, safety and occupational health organizations, and professional organizations to promote acceptance and understanding of agency laws, standards, and objectives, to resolve conflicts in the interpretation and application of agency standards/regulations, to solicit and encourage joint efforts on matters of mutual concern, and to coordinate program operations and projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: creating, reviewing, and overseeing safety policies and procedures for laboratory facilities and campuses.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
