This position is located in Lake Mead National Recreation Area, in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division. Open to the first 101 applicants or until 04/05/2024 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

Duties

MAJOR DUTIES: Operation of vessels and vehicles in both the front and back country to educate visitors on rules, regulations and safety practices. Responds to emergency calls by vehicle, boat, and foot utilizing a knowledge of local roads, park lands, and adjoining response areas. Serve as a member of all risk operations, ex: search and rescue, EMS, etc. Plans, conducts and assists with "all hazards" trainings such as EMS, search and rescue, incident management and boating. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. This position at Lake Mead will operate government-owned motorboats. In order to operate these power boats, you must be able to complete the DOI Motorboat Operator's Certification Course (MOCC) within one year of entry on duty. This course will be offered at LAKE, and you must be prepared to participate in the training and successfully complete the course. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by 11:59 EST when the applicant cut-off is reached (which may be sooner than 04/05/2024). Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: Applicants must meet the following by close of the announcement to qualify. Candidates who do not meet these requirements by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. Must possess a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), or higher-level, certification, by the close date of this announcement. You MUST provide your certificate/card in your application. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (Note: Guide, Assistant or Technician work in a single grade occupational series at the GS-05 level does NOT qualify for this position, however GS-06 level may). This experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Experience may have been in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: Law enforcement or investigative work. Forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area. Management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate-level education in a related field appropriate to the position such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. You must provide transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of specialized experience and graduate education, as described above, that when combined equal at least 100% of the minimum qualification requirement for the GS-07 level. You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education and provide hours worked per week on your resume. -OR- SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: To qualify, you must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the duties of this position AND meet one of the following Superior Academic Achievement provisions: (1) Class Standing: rank in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as College of Liberal Arts or School of Business Administration, based on the completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average: earn a grade-point average of (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field, or the required courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum. Note: grade-point averages will be rounded to the one decimal place, for example, 2.95 = 3.0, 2.94 = 2.9, and 3.45 = 3.5; OR (3) Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society: elected membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies. Freshman scholastic honor societies cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. You must provide transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience MUST include: (1) Performing natural resource patrols by vehicle and vessel for the conservation, use, and management of natural and/or cultural resources in park areas or similar operations; (2) Instructing others in the operation of watercraft to include patrol skills, trailering, launching and retrieving, and vessel safety; and (3) Responding to emergencies by vehicle and vessel and performing BLS lifesaving skills. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education OR a master's/equivalent graduate degree in a related field appropriate to the position such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. You must provide transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: Only progressive graduate education beyond the first year is credible when combining. You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education and provide hours worked per week on your resume. CTAP/ICTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Education

Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
