This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws The Clinical Pharmacy Technician provides administrative, clerical, and clinical support which serves in the inpatient, outpatient, and specialty clinics. Other duties may include laboratory value monitoring, medical chart/ action profile poly-pharmacy reviews, medication utilization evaluation monitoring, pharmacoeconomic reviews, telephone logistical support, supplemental patient education communication, and vaccine administration (if applicable). The clinical pharmacy technician will perform work with oversight by a clinical pharmacist, a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) for the assigned program area, or other pharmacist while directly reporting to the Supervisory Pharmacy Technician. The clinical pharmacy technician successfully and consistently demonstrates the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision) as well as comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Obtain necessary supplies from laboratory service and stocks, restocks supply checking for proper storage and outdates on test strips. Perform Point of Care (POC) testing for International Normalized Ratio (INR). Review medication history, changes (including herbals, dietary supplements, and OTC's), adherence, and complications of therapy and report findings to CPP. Interview patients, family members and/or caregivers, to develop an accurate list of medications, drug strengths, dosages, routes, and instructions the patient has been taking. Obtain relevant patient information from patient interviews, assisted living facilities (Alf's), and nursing homes using joint legacy viewer (JLV) with our department of defense (DOD) partners. Updates and clarifies allergy information in patient's records in an electronic health record (EHR) Improve medication safety by collecting up-to-date and prior-to admission medication lists for patients admitted to the hospital. Prepare discharge medications for prescription/order (s) are reviewed by a pharmacist for therapeutic propriety, reviews orders for technical accuracy and converts the order, if necessary, so that the item dispensed corresponds to the drug and dose ordered. Read and interpret prescriptions, obtains proper medication or material in the proper dosage strength and dosage form; determines proper amount and counts, pours, or measures the medications; affixes proper label; and records required data on Pharmacy's copy of prescription/order. After a final check by a pharmacist, dispenses and or delivers medication in ambulatory care or discharge situations. Assist decentralized pharmacist and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team in ensuring safe and effective care transitions and patient satisfaction throughout the discharge process. Provide reminder phone calls to patients and assist with scheduling and resolving issues. Educate patients to the use of video conferencing visits, My HealtheVet medication profile view and refill use, secure messaging and other technologies as needed. Assist with the review of Prior Authorization Drug Requests. Transport vaccinations and associated supplies to clinic area which may include transporting in a government vehicle for offsite locations. Administer vaccination to patients, prepare and complete required documentation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification. For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: (1) Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Or National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT). Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019, Employee Occupational Health Service. English Language Proficiency. Pharmacy Technician candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Clinical Pharmacy Technician, GS-08 Experience: Candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. Resume must demonstrate: Knowledge of Federal and state laws related to pharmacy practice AND preparation, storage and distribution of medication products including those requiring special handling and documentation, AND ability to use pharmacy information systems or operate pharmacy dispensing equipment, and communicate with patients and staff and direct questions to appropriate personnel. Certification: For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Or National Healthcare Association (NHS) as a Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, principles, methodology and policies in a specialized area or section of pharmacy (such as sterile compounding, controlled substances, automation, clinical pharmacy, contact center, etc.) Note: See Specialized Area.in the Definitions Section. Skill in training and orienting new and existing pharmacy facility employees and students on proper policies and procedures. Ability to evaluate, analyze and coordinate workflow and work activities within a specialized area or section of the pharmacy. Physical Requirements: The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion, involving standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, typing, walking distances within the medical center, lifting/carrying (up to 40 pounds) of pharmaceutical supplies, and bending/stooping/stretching.
