Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM) at Schriever Space Force Base, 17th Test and Evaluation Squadron is searching for a Missile Defense Test Engineer (NH-0801-03, GS 12/13 equivalent). Description: The Delta 12, 17th Test and Evaluation Squadron (17 TES) test engineer (TE) provides test expertise specializing in integrated, operational, and/or developmental test early involvement, planning, execution, analysis, and reporting for space related missile warning, missile defense, and/or space domain awareness systems. The TE will mainly be involved in test planning, execution, and reporting once qualified internally as a project officer and/or test director. The TE involvement in analysis will be as required. The TE will support test executions world-wide. In the past, the 17 TES has conducted space tests in Australia, United Kingdom, Thule Greenland, Alaska, Hawaii, and various CONUS locations. On average the TE can expect to travel sporadically (1-3 times for a week or less per year and maybe one longer TDY a year that normally not does not exceed 3 weeks for a system test execution). Unique Delta 12 and 17 TES training will be provided to ensure the TE is properly qualified in various test roles (e.g., project officer and/or test director). The TE, once qualified, will mentor and provide oversight to military project officers and technical directors. The TE will be responsible in the development of various test products such as test plans, detailed test procedures, implementation of test pause and stop procedures, hazard and risk assessments, test readiness briefings, various leadership status briefings, daily execution reports, identification of system deficiencies, and completion of various analysis and reporting documents and briefings IAW established procedures. The TE will also provide coordination between operations, engineering, and maintenance to schedule the system under test (SUT), support assets, and test ranges and will be responsible for proper test article configuration and data acquisition system configuration. Additionally, the TE monitors and provides guidance on system under test operation and data acquisition system operations during test mission as required; gathers post-mission reports and forwards test data to the appropriate data analysis activity; and ensures that lessons learned, deficiencies, or unusual test events are documented and resolved, as required. The ideal candidate will possess missile defense knowledge, operational testing and/or developmental testing, operational missile defense experience, DOT&E oversight testing experience, and college STEM degree preferred or meets OPM job series 0801 educational requirements. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of multidisciplinary professional engineering to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to areas of responsibility. 2. Knowledge of the principles of planning, program management, and standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization. 5. Ability to research, evaluate, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies. Requirements: 1. Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise. 2. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance. 3. Employee needs to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties. 4. May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments. 5. May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis. 6. A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution in (specific discipline of position) or a closely related field is required. 7. This position is not eligible for remote or telework due to classified work interaction with leadership and test team. 8. PCS will not be paid and incentives funding is available. 9. Position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications.
