The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of information systems to include acquisition, support, training, and installations as the lead Information Technology (IT) support technician for one or more squadrons.

Duties

Resolves partial system failures (software or hardware-related) by providing for revised applications of system operating capabilities, which involves working through or around the problems with reduced capacity, and readjusting the system when full operating configuration is resolved. Adapts or develops new work procedures and instructions for application by self and others. Assists in the installation and testing of system releases and computer upgrades and making recommendations for system improvements. Accomplishes risk analyses, accreditation, and certification packages. Conducts Computer Systems Security Officer (CSSO) training for functional area CSSOs, including contingency planning and incoming personnel security procedures.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain occupational technical certifications as directed by the supervisor

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level (or equivalent in other pay systems) in the federal service in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained while performing a variety of related tasks that require differing methods and procedures to operate, install, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware and software. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of master's or equivalent graduate degree ortwo full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in an appropriate field leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. Knowledge of Department of Defense and Agency automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces; and higher-level programming languages and other job control languages. 3. Knowledge of data content and output options for a variety of administrative, scientific and/or technical program applications that are processed on any of several multi-program operating systems. 4. Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems. 5. Ability to use and maintain a computer system, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems and develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
