About the Position: This position is located with the Logistic Readiness Center, Maintenace Division, in Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Duties
Utilizes part manuals/manufacturer repair manuals for equipment repairs.
Uses lifting devices to move heavy equipment.
Repairs parts on electrical systems on heavy duty vehicles.
Operates equipment to ensure work was completed correctly.
Uses trade practices and knowledge to determine malfunctions.
Uses diagnostic equipment such as engine analyzer and vacuum to determine the nature of problems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must successfully obtain and maintain a Tier 1 background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain an OF 346, US Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Permit within 120 days of employment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties. Heavier objects are lifted with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision which includes: 1) disassembling, repairing, and assembling major systems and components; 2) operating mechanisms on heavy mobile equipment; 3) conducting operational checks and adjustments; and 4) utilizing specialized testing equipment such as compression testers, motor analyzers, and test benches. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Physical Effort: Lifts large, bulky and hard-to-grasp objects weighing up to 50 pounds independently, or heavier objects with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices. Works in various positions including standing, stooping, sitting, stretching, kneeling, lying down, or climbing.
Working Conditions: Works mostly inside shop area on concrete floors, usually under dirty or greasy conditions. Subject to cuts, scrapes, burns, bruises, and exposure to exhaust fumes. Works from bucket truck while servicing hoists.
