Duties

Perform general mail handling and distribution including sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing, and routing mail. Bundle and bag mail according to the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) regulations. Provide information and advice to serviced customers regarding procedures. Review incoming miscellaneous materials such as mail, publications, directives, etc. and pre-sorts these into action and/or information categories. Check mail for proper format and conformance with USPS and Department of the Army (DA) standards. Perform a variety of general office support (administrative and clerical tasks), such as establishing and maintaining office files, collating documents, preparing folders, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) travel may be required up to 5% of the time
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a SECURITY security clearance.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • A pre-employment and annual physical is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving, collecting, sorting, and routing correspondence and or packages according to the United States Postal Service regulations; and recording and/or logging incoming and outgoing mail. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
