About the Position: Serves as the Lead Survey Technician ensuring the strategic plan, mission, vision, and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.

Duties

Communicate to the team the assignment, project, problem to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion. Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information, as required, and coordinate the preparation, presentation, and communication of work-related information to the supervisor. Provide the team’s findings and recommendations in meetings and dealings with other team leaders, program officials, the public and other customers on issues related to or that have an impact on the team's objectives, work products and/or tasks. Lead the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provide leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made (e.g., in work methods, processes and procedures). Inform supervisor of performance management issues/problems and to recommend/request related actions, such as: assignments, reassignments, promotions, tour of duty changes, peer reviews and performance appraisals. Reviews work of junior surveyors to ensure accuracy and precision of data.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires a pre-employment physical and an examination every two years thereafter.
  • Required to wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) at all times while working on open floating plant decks and other PPE as appropriate.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Overnight travel required up to 50% of the time.
  • Must obtain a USACE Motorboat Operator License within one year of being appointed.

Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in all of the following areas: (1) utilizing specialized hardware and software used in hydrographic surveying; (2) planning hydrographic surveys and (3) providing training about hydrographic surveying methods to team members. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Data AnalysisData Collection and AnalysisLeadershipSurveying Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
