Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Kirtland Air Force Base is searching for a Technical Director, Prototype Operations Branch (NH-0801-03, GS 12/ 13 equivalent). Description: This position serves as the Technical Director of the Prototype Operations Branch (SSC/SZIX). Provide technical support and advice to the Prototype Operations Branch Chief regarding existing satellite missions, potential future missions, and all related ground systems. Contribute content to Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) and Agreement (MOA) with mission partners and collaborate with mission partners to ensure mutual MOU and MOA compliance. Work with SZIX's Flight Commanders and mission partners to ensure accomplishment of technical and integrated mission objectives and contribute to anomaly resolution as appropriate. Work with SSC/SZI's Technical Director and other branches to ensure cohesion of SZIX's prototype roadmap with SZI's broader technical roadmap. Briefs Senior Officials on program status, requirements, and validity of contractor recommendations. Analyzes and studies requirements against a range of diverse considerations. Responsible for the development and proficiency of the technical team. Workload includes planning and executing the technical roadmap for the United States Space Force's only dedicated prototype operations branch. The position will evaluate potential new missions for their impact on the operations center, ability to work together with other prototype missions, and their operational impact for mission partners. The technical knowledge you will eventually build of our 15+ highly classified missions, their respective mission partners, and requisite ground systems will provide you the background needed to usher the Research, Development, Test and Evaluation Support Complex (RSC) into the future as SSC ventures to build a cohesive and strategically impactful set of missions. Ideal Candidate: - A science, technology, engineering, or mathematics-related undergraduate degree required. Graduate Degree Desired. - Experience working as a satellite operator at a government or contractor satellite operations center. - In-depth knowledge of satellites and their respective ground systems, cloud computing, and networking. - Familiarity with the cloud computing, networking, the Satellite Control Network (SCN), Commercial Augmentation Services (CAS), National Space Test and Training Center (NSTTC)-provided capabilities and ground Telemetry, Tracking & Control (TT&C) systems. - Familiarity with cybersecurity principles. - Experience with overseeing technical processes & projects to meet stakeholder requirements. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of Research, Development, Test & Evaluation Support Complex (RSC) capabilities and the capabilities of supporting organizations including the Satellite Control Network (SCN), Commercial Augmentation Services (CAS), NSTTC-provided capabilities and appropriate ground Telemetry, Tracking & Control (TT&C) systems. 2. Extensive knowledge of operations process, practices, procedures and regulations. 3. Ability to plan, organize and direct functions of Integrated Product Teams (IPT) made up of government, contractor, and technical advisement support. 4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact and diplomacy in various settings including meetings, briefings, and written communication with a variety of personnel at all levels inside and outside of the organization. 5. Ability to analyze and assess the operational impacts of downtimes, modifications and concept changes to the RSC and supporting architectures/capabilities. 6. Ability to review and analyze program and operations requirements and to recommend development or modification of internal and external systems and justify resources. 7. Detailed knowledge of process, policies, procedures, operating instructions, and other issues as they pertain to complex mission systems, operations issues and satellite command and control operations issues to include both ground and space access technologies.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • Position will be closed after 5 business days or after 75 applications are received.

  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; employee must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, “Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.” Employee is required to attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
  • This is a cybersecurity position; employee will attain appropriate DoD approved cybersecurity baseline certificate(s) applicable for cybersecurity functions , within six months of filling position IAW DoD 8570.01-M.
