This position is located at Marsh - Billings - Rockefeller National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov) in the Visitor Experience and Resource Stewardship Division.
Duties
This is a TERM position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.
Major duties for this position include but are not limited to:
Coordinate youth and volunteer efforts that support sustainable recreation, public engagement on trails, and trail maintenance.
Work with youth crews (Youth Corps, Student Conservation Association (SCA), AmeriCorps, etc.), volunteers, and park staff assisting with resource projects, trail maintenance, and other related projects providing insight and direction on project requirements.
Assist in the creation or revision of orientation materials, maps, trails signs, information signs, interpretive materials, guidebooks, and handouts.
Develop prioritized recommendations for trail work and collaborative projects with trail partners.
Assist in developing proposals to secure funding for trail maintenance, youth crews, and associated projects.
Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion and can involve extensive periods of standing, walking, and hiking in some cases over rough surfaces or inclines outdoors or in caves and carrying a backpack. Work involves recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities. on occasion may lift or carry equipment weighing less than 50 pounds over long distances.
Working Conditions: The work can include moderate risks or discomforts that require safety precautions (e.g., exposure to extreme temperatures, climates, rough terrain, wild animals pests, and or insects). Employee may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, boots, gloves, etc.
Government housing MAY be available.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/05/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: working in a diverse team to create inclusive youth and volunteer programs and leading youth, leading volunteer groups working on trail maintenance in an outdoor setting, coordinating volunteer group work assignments (e.g., assigning work, identifying high priority work, switching assignments, etc.), performing condition assessments on trails to determine current condition and/or needed repair, facilitating on-the-job training, mentoring, and oversight of youth and volunteer groups. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include hours per week worked.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
