About the position: This position will be assigned to the Travis Outdoor Recreation facility at Travis Air Force Base, CA. Work Schedule: Intermittent (Flexible) employees have no guaranteed hours but may work up to 40 hours per week. Physical Effort: Lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Tuition Assistance after one year!

Duties

Performs and/or assists in operation and maintenance of the Works bicycle shop located within Outdoor Recreation. Duties include but are not limited to: Inspection and maintenance of both rental and personally owned bicycles for customers to ensure they are in safe and proper working order. Repairs customers' personally owned bicycles (i.e. gear adjustment, tire change, wheel truing, full tune-ups, part replacement, construction of bicycles and diagnostic work). Disassembles and replaces or repairs mechanical components or parts using wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other specialized bicycle tools. Repairs and maintains customers' personally owned skis or snow boards (e.g. P-Tex, mounting, edging, resurfacing, and waxing). Uses specialized equipment such as base grinder, edger, and waxing machines. Demonstrates proper use of bicycle and ski/snow board equipment and instructs others on techniques for safe and proper operation. Assists with ordering replacement parts, resale components, and accessories from outside vendors. Maintains and inventories stock of repair parts and tools; reports inventory to management as needed. Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have 6 months previous experience and a thorough knowledge about maintaining/repairing bicycles and ski/snowboarding equipment. Current certification in one area (bicycle or ski/snowboard) may be used to qualify while being trained on the job for certification in the other area. Must be able to read and understand service manuals for equipment. Must keep current on product models and be familiar with up to date equipment styles, teaching/training methods, and safety practices. Must be physically able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally push/pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
