About the Position: Serves as Human Resources Assistant (Military) for the Presidio of Monterey, Directorate of Human Resources, Military Personnel Division, performing the full range of Human Resources actions and processes for military personnel.

Duties

Examine and/or processes both routine and non-routine military personnel action documents using experience in applying military personnel procedures and policies. Ensure that requirements related to the specific action are met. Ensures completeness and proper forwarding of records to board. Process soldier actions to include requests for Foreign Language Proficiency Pay (FLPP), and all individual Soldier applications for various programs as directed. Respond to various questions from both internal and external customers, junior staff, and managers for readily available information that can be obtained from file material or governing directives. Review orders and other applicable documents and reports. Reads and interprets regulations, rules, guidelines, and other procedural instructions. Apply current directives pertaining to the special policies initiated by headquarters. Perform all aspects of retirement/separation counseling and processing Assist Active-duty personnel in retirement planning through counseling sessions directed toward preparing the prospective retiree/separatee for transition to civilian life.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources, Business. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer LiteracyManages and Organizes InformationManaging Human ResourcesWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
