Duties

You will control admission and departure of personnel from sensitive restrictive areas where there is potential for a breach of national security. You will check everyone for a proper security credentials, verifies functionality of badging systems, and prevent access to persons without proper security credentials. You will use approved communication equipment to immediately contact the installation security forces (law enforcement) in order to transfer any person suspected of a violation of good order and discipline. You will direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Must obtain and maintain current certification for CPR and First Aid.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Must successfully pass (no felony convictions) an initial criminal background check and annual review.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience performing administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information, AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Demands: This work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and/or strenuous physical exertion such as lifting/dragging heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching or crawling in restrictive areas during inspection activities, defending oneself and others during a physical attack. Required to successfully complete a periodic physical abilities test and must routinely participate in defensive tactics, handcuffing and firearms qualification requiring physical stamina and agility. Work Environment: Work is performed for the most part indoors, but may be required outdoors in the heat, cold, rain and wind during the hours of daylight and darkness; with work in or under extremely dangerous conditions. The work environment regularly involves high risk with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which requires a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent may also work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, noise, and heat. Employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., protective vest [bullet resistant], ballistic helmet, etc.) or other PPE as necessary for the protection of the employee in the performance of their duties.
