You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will manage the safety program database as the command administrator, utilizing skill to manage safety data and trending. You will review Safety Management System objectives to identify and correct deficiencies in established programs. You will inspect workplaces, processes, products, or other systems in a Public Works and Construction environment for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies. You will provide command level reports and documents to leadership in order to facilitate discussion and action to improve the safety program.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to complete training courses as delineated in OPNAVIST 5100.23 series and the NAVFAC Safety Community Management Plan.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1.)Formulating, developing and administering a safety and occupational health program; 2) Developing and/or providing input for standard operating procedures and safety analyses; 3) Scheduling and performing inspections to ensure compliance with rules and regulations; 4) Preparing safety instructions and guides for command use; 5) Advising management on changes needed to meet safety and occupational health standards; and 6) Preparing and presenting safety training.
