About the Position: Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Student Program. The Student program positions are Temporary NTE 120 Days, short-term only, that may not be converted. It is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation in the Administrative and Office Support area.

Duties

Provide general office clerical support for an organization. Operate a computer terminal utilizing word processing software to prepare simple forms, draft, and other documents. File/sort in accordance with clear designated system to follow with distributing routine mail. Check to verify data by direct comparison with source furnished; tabulate data provided in accordance with instructions performing simple arithmetic procedures. File in accordance with a clearly designated system. Operate simple duplicating equipment, assemble, and staple copies. Answer, take a message, and relay telephone calls.

Requirements

  • Appointment requires a suitability/fitness determination.
  • Applicant must be 16 years of age.
  • Participants must sign an Student Program Participant Agreement.
  • Participants must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled at least half time pursing a degree or certificate.
  • Participants must maintain a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or higher.
  • Qualified Typist.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: Students who are eligible for participation in the Department of the Army Student Program. Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution on at least a half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled). Short-term training programs (e.g., several two-week programs completed) are not considered an academic course of study. The program is for current students in good standing at an accredited education. For this program, you must be able to work full-time when not attending classes. To qualify for Student Trainee (Administrative and Office Support), GS-0399-03: General Experience: Six months of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position such as, copy documents, letters, forms, and arrange material for filing in alphabetical, numerical or chronological order for ease of research and retrieval. OR Education: One year of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 6. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. To qualify for Student Trainee (Administrative and Office Support), GS-0399-04: General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position such as, prepare suspense control documents, maintain suspense files, and assist in loading software programs. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. To qualify for Student Trainee (Administrative and Office Support), GS-0399-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using Microsoft Office to assist others in preparing routine and recurring correspondence, reports, memos, forms and prepare suspense control documents and maintain suspense files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. NOTE: If your college, vocational, trade, technical or high schools' definition of "academic year" differs from above, you must submit proof of this difference (e.g., copy of course catalog that defines an academic year). Absent this documentation, you will screened for academic qualifications based on the academic hours as defined in the bullets above.You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Oral Communication
