This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Performs a variety of tasks outside the powerhouse related to the operation, maintenance, minor construction and alteration, and repair of buildings and structures, roads and grounds including debris removal, operating machinery, and equipment as well as other Project facilities.

Duties

Operates a variety of heavy engineering/construction equipment to push, pull, pile, plow, dig, trench, level, or load materials such as sand, gravel, topsoil, debris, and snow. Installs and/or makes plumbing maintenance repairs to toilets, sinks, valves, faucets, waterlines, water heaters, irrigation controllers, sprinkler heads, fixtures, pumps, etc. Performs a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance work including sweeping, roadside trimming and field mowing; tree falling, sawing, and pruning; planting of trees, shrubs, and grass; weed control; and irrigation. Perform maintenance duties to include mechanical, electrical, welding, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and concrete maintenance and repair, and landscaping and grounds maintenance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Participation in the Medical Surveillance Program required.
  • A pre-employment medical examination is required.
  • Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Obtain and maintain a USACE boats/vessels for vessels less than 26 feet in length and greater than 26 feet, within 12 months of appointment.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE WORKER (MVO)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair duties using acceptable trade practices, methods and techniques. I can perform most of the following: carpentry, painting, plumbing and irrigation systems, grounds maintenance, welding, equipment operations, and concrete maintenance and repair. I can operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to construction equipment, motorboats, and/or heavy motor vehicles. I can perform preventive maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and/or boats. I work under normal supervision or a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Works in hard to reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts up to 40 pounds. Heavy physical effort is used when operating equipment in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. WORKING CONDITONS: Maintenance work is done inside and outside and is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Work is performed in bad weather and in noisy areas. The worker is exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns, cuts, and bruises. Equipment is operated in all types of weather and workboat operation occurs in all types of weather and in lake and river environments. Incumbent is exposed to extreme heat and cold, wet and icy conditions, high waves as well as operates in fog, work in strong current and shallow water and possible collision with floating or submerged obstructions.
