About the Position: You will function as a Civil Engineering Technician providing computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) support for engineers assigned to the Section, including both Civil and Military Works projects of the Nashville District.
Duties
Utilize the CADD system, assists design engineers by preparing detailed plans for such items as locks, dams, relocations of structures, utilities, road, grading, drainage, etc.
Develop, maintain and shares a thorough knowledge of CADD and ProjectWise workstation hardware, operational techniques and standards.
Serve as a credit card holder.
Maintain flow and quality of work to assure timely accomplishment of assigned work and making day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities.
Purchase equipment and supplies, assuring availability of funds prior to ordering.
Identify CADD work to be done and identifies operating problems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May be selected at any grade level with non-competitive promotion potential to target grade. Non-competitive promotion potential to the target grade based on time-in-grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the higher graded duties.
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Computer-Aided Drafting Technical Certificate may be required.

Qualifications for GS-07
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience: using engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques, and Civil and Military Works projects; reviewing of plans and specification; using of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
OR
Education: one full year of graduate education (i.e., 18 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Business Administration, Natural Sciences (biology, geology, agriculture, ecology, plant and soil science, etc.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing the CADD system, assists design engineers by preparing detailed plans for such items as locks, dams, and their appurtenances, structural steel details, structural concrete details, construction limits, quantity take-offs, relocations of structures, utilities, road, grading, drainage, etc.; using engineering methods, principles, requirements, work techniques, and Civil and Military Works projects; reviewing of plans and specification; using of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) systems; performing computer and geometric computations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
