This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), CG-DCO, Assistant for Prevention Policy, Inspection and Compliance Directorate, National Vessel Documentation Center, Falling Waters, WV. 

Duties

As an Attorney-Advisor (General), this position provides technical legal guidance in multiple legal practice areas including the Vessel Documentation Program, regulatory interpretation, and proposed changes to regulations and policy as well as associated administrative issues such as Freedom of Information FOIA) requests, labor negotiations, employment law, acquisition, ethics, and other topics.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires membership in the State Bar.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

All Candidates must possess a J.D. or LL.B degree from an accredited law school;ANDMust be a member in good standing of the appropriate licensing authority of any state, territory of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or District of Columbia bar.ANDTo qualify for the GS-14 level position, must: have successfully completed at least one full year of professional legal experience as a practicing attorney equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, as reflected in the nature and complexity of case work and legal issues for which responsible, the level of responsibility exercised, and the degree to which such experience equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Note: Only education and experience acquired before the filing deadline will be considered.
