This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: As a Dam Equipment Mechanic you will perform a variety of duties to support the operation and maintenance of a fish trapping facility.
Duties
Performs maintenance and repair of dam equipment such as gate controls, main and redundant hydraulic units, radial gates and emergency gates, touch screens, control units, etc.
Clears control faults by entering mechanical room and manually making necessary adjustments.
Operate radial and emergency gates to maintain proper level and flow of water using standard operating procedures.
Provide support to the Fish Run.
Operate a variety of heavy equipment such as a road grade, bulldozer, dump truck, brush cutter or pavement sweeper.
Perform duties in the following areas: electrical, welding, plumbing, painting, machinist, rigging, carpentry, engine and equipment repair and quarry work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain forklift certification within 1 year of being appointed.
- Must obtain USACE Boat License within 1 year of being appointed.
- Pre-employment and Annual physicals required.
- Pre-employment Drug Test and random drug testing required.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- Must obtain a Class A commercial driver's license with N (tanker)endorsement within 1 year of being appointed.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a DAM EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform routine installation, maintenance or repair on mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical equipment. Must have journeyman level experience in one or more of the following areas: Electrical, Carpentry, Machinist, Mechanic, Welder, or Engineering Equipment Operator. I work under normal supervision of a supervisor or work leader who reviews my work for completion. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out
Physical Effort: Work requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and maneuvering in cramped spaces. Regularly lifts 40 to 50 pounds. Hoists, lifts, hand trucks, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Works on ladders and scaffolds which requires overhead work or in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. Operation of equipment involves jarring, jolting, jerking, twisting, bouncing, vibration, and strenuous physical activity.
Working Conditions: Work performed inside include areas that are noisy, dirty, cold, damp, drafty, and greasy. Outside work is in all kinds of weather, including rain, wind, snow, and flooding. The incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, scrapes, fumes, burns, abrasions, and danger to the fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, and moving machine parts. Falling rocks and debris work exposes incumbent to accidents from being struck by debris falling into fast-running water. Employee is subject to the discomforts of wearing safety equipment such as gloves, hard-toed shoes, hard-hat, lifejacket, rain gear, etc., when required by the situation.
