This position is located in a State Office, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The primary purpose of the position is to serve as an assistant for clerical and administrative activities pertaining to correspondence, budget, purchasing, human resources, timekeeping, travel, and related administrative areas for as Area Office.
Duties
Serve as the Area Administrative Coordinator.
Assist with tracking various items such as property, employee training, registration for workshops, and other requests for the supervisor.
Assist with the purchase of supplies, equipment, and services, using mandatory or open market sources, by ensuring proper and timely documentation and reconciling.
Help maintain field office accounts and maintain procurement records following agency guidelines.
Review timesheets for all employees in the area for compliance with policy. Answer timekeeping questions from staff.
Enter travel authorizations and travel vouchers for all employees in the area. Answer travel related questions for staff.
Assist in review of vehicular accidents involving government vehicles in the area, helping ensure the proper forms are completed and forwarded to appropriate action personnel in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Schedule meetings, make arrangements for meeting facilities and notify participants of schedule changes; compiles and distributes relevant materials to be used in presentations or training conducted by the supervisor and staff.
Serve as main point of contact for administrative functions for all staff in the area.
Requirements

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
A minimum 40 words per minute typing skill is required.
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-06 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. For this position, specialized experience is defined as:
Providing a variety of administrative and technical support relating to personnel, procurement, budget and/or general administrative management, AND;
Organizing travel and meeting arrangements for management officials and program staff.
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-07 level,you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. For this position, specialized experience is defined as:
Performing a variety of administrative support services in support of a business or program office, assisting in preparing operating budgets, making purchases of office supplies, equipment, vehicles and tracking expenditures;
Providing timekeeping services and reconciling time and attendance documents;
Making travel arrangements, AND;
Reviewing incoming and outgoing correspondence and other administrative documents.
NOTE: There is no substitution of education at the GS-06/07/08 grade levels.
