This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Plains Area, Lubbock, TX.
In this position, you will support the supervisor and the staff by relieving them of various administrative and clerical duties and allowing them to focus on the organization's primary mission.
Duties
Prepares and transmits Time and Attendance records and reports for office staff.
Reviews outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy.
Personally takes care of matters related to routine or procedural issues of the office.
Receives telephone calls, greets visitors, and directs to appropriate staff members for attention or action.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
GS-04
General Experience: Qualifying experience for GS-04 includes one (1) year of general experience. For this position, general experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies to perform the duties of the position. General experience may be obtained in an office environment by performing the following types of tasks: maintaining an office calendar to schedule appointments or arrange meetings; utilizing office automation software to create or modify documents; and attending to visitors or clients.
OR
Education: Two years of education above the high school level.
OR
A combination of education and general experience as described above.
Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
