You will serve as a Police Officer in the Force Protection Divison of NAS PATUXENT RIVER SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will respond to and investigate complaints while interpreting and enforcing state and federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD and Navy regulations, and installation directives, rules and regulations. You will respond to alarms, emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service while on duty. You will operate electronic tactical police communications equipment, including mobile data terminals to receive dispatches, respond to calls and complete official reports. You will perform traffic law enforcement using specialized equipment such as radar, breathalyzer. You will set up and conduct checkpoints/roadblocks at various locations throughout the installation in support of Random Anti-terrorism Measures (RAMS) and to reduce criminal activity and ensure motor vehicle safety. You will prepare detailed reports, forms, and citations concerning all incidents and action taken. You will ensure individuals requesting access to the installation have proper identification.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Employee must successfully pass an initial, annual, and or any required OPM, DoD, or DON mental and emotional stability screening, physical ability test, and physical fitness for duty test.
  • Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment. Additionally, must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for installation.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Investigating unusual situations pertaining to violations of the law; 2. Conducting checkpoints/roadblocks at various locations to reduce criminal activity; 3. Inspecting packages/personal belongings when admitting personnel into controlled areas; and 4. Responding to emergency calls for service while adhering to state and federal laws. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Issuing citations for violations of the law; 2. Preparing reports and orders for dissemination to other law enforcement officials; and 3.
