You will serve as a Machinist (Bench) in the Machinist Shop 31, Production Resources Department of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will receive, identify, disassemble and inspect machining parts of shipboard components. You will repair components such as various types of valves, pumps, hydraulic cylinders, actuators, condensers in accordance with specifications dictated by drawings or technical manuals. You will interpret technical manuals, shop directives, blueprints and repair or maintenance manuals to accomplish the disassembly, troubleshoot or repair, assembly and testing of ship components in an inside machine shop environment. You will use precision measuring equipment such as inside and outside micrometers, dial calipers, vernier calipers, telescope gauges, height gauges and must be knowledgeable of the capabilities and machine shop practices.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the ability to lift/carry items weighing 60 pounds, and occasionally over 60 pounds.
  • This position requires visual acuity and the ability to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
  • Work is performed in the shop and requires standing for long periods.
  • Work may require working in uncomfortable positions which involve stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.
