Duties
The responsibilities listed are at the full performance level.
Provides radio subject matter expertise to local leadership on the forest and assists in the design of Land Mobile Radio systems
Installs and performs corrective/preventive maintenance of Land Mobile Radio systems.
Installs and performs corrective/preventive maintenance of radio control components and links.
Provides design, implementation, corrective/preventive maintenance, and installation of lightning protection and grounding systems, and primary and backup power systems .
Performs testing, acceptance, and user training for Land Mobile Radio system components, and coordinates installations and removals of mobile radios.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

- The agency tower certification program must be successfully fulfilled no more than six months after being hired, and the employee must recertify periodically as required.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-09: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Assisting with installing and maintaining land mobile radio systems; and/or resolving a variety of technical problems related to land mobile radio systems; and/or assisting with the acquisition and configuration of requirements for land mobile radio system components.
GS-10: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Installing, maintaining and repairing land mobile radio systems; and/or performing the acquisition, development of requirements, and configuration management of land mobile radio systems; and/or analyzing and interpreting land mobile radio systems schematics and block diagrams.
GS-11: Applicants must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Designing, redesigning, fabricating, and modifying land mobile radio systems and equipment; and/or diagnosing land mobile radio system malfunctions and operating difficulties; and/or developing methods and procedures for maintenance and testing of land mobile radio systems and subsystem components.
Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.
