Duties
At the full performance level, duties will be: Serves as a Senior Hydraulic Engineer, responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and defining project information and participating in and leading project team meetings.
Applies extensive and diversified professional knowledge of Hydraulic Engineering theory, principles and practices related to the study, layout and design of hydraulic systems.
Plans, directs, and develops applicable portions of studies, analyses and designs which support the full array of project documents.
Delegates work assignments to lower graded staff members, maintains control over the work progress to ensure timely accomplishment, and provides advice and assistance on various work aspects.
Also estimates and reports on expected time of work completion, and reviews completed work on assigned projects for timeliness, accuracy and compliance with criteria and requirements.
Performs technical reviews of project documents developed by Architectural-Engineering (A-E) firms, other agencies, or Corps Districts.
Resolves hydraulic engineering related problems arising during construction.
Provides hydraulic engineering expertise for a wide range of projects containing diverse, complex, and unconventional hydraulic features in the District's Civil Works and Military Programs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state issued driver's license.
- Outside work that may expose you to the elements, with weather varying from extreme heat to extreme cold, walking over rough, uneven surfaces, climbing, stooping, bending, standing, and requiring the use of hard hats and appropriate safety gear.
- Requires the knowledge of pertinent hydraulics software that relates to performing hydraulic engineering designs and analyses.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes supporting engineering projects by collecting data through field activities, preparing reports and summarizing data, and assisting in the development of water management and/or feasibility studies or hydraulic design. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: engineering.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes supporting hydraulics analyses data collection, preparing reports and summarizing data, and the development of water management and/or feasibility studies or hydraulic design. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: engineering.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Minimum Qualifications for GS-11
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing assistance in preparing hydraulic analyses in support of water resources projects and engineering studies or hydraulic design using a variety of applications, to include hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: engineering.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Minimum Qualifications for GS-12
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conduct a variety of hydraulic analyses in support of water resources projects and engineering studies or hydraulic design using a variety of applications, to include hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
