Duties

These positions serve as Maintenance Workers for the Paria River District. Performs facility maintenance duties ranging from electrical, painting, custodial, plumbing, carpentry, welding, cement finishing, warehousing, grounds care, forklift/vehicle operator, heating and air conditioning, and equipment maintenance. Performs operational and annual maintenance of administrative and recreational sites to include cleaning and maintaining facilities, landscaping, applying herbicide, installing and operating water systems, and winterizing equipment and grounds. Assists with construction, installation, and maintenance of facilities at recreation sites, such as campgrounds, trailheads, kiosks, signs, parking areas, walkways, shelters, tent pads, fire pits, grills, picnic tables, and toilet structures. Operates and maintains various types of equipment such as heavy duty 4X4 pickups, forklift, skid-steer loader with various attachments, hydraulic lift dump trailer. Performs routine cleaning of facilities, vehicles, and grounds. Provides maintenance and operation of drinking water systems and solar systems at administrative and recreation sites. Paints and/or stains interior and exterior surfaces on BLM owned facilities and structures. Obtain, maintain, a government purchase card for procuring necessary supplies, material, and/or equipment for resolving project needs. Use various tools, electronics, equipment and computers to analysis, document, research, and correct maintenance issues.

Requirements

There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that you possess the skill level that has equipped you with the particular job elements to successfully perform the duties of Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work requires walking stooping, bending, lying flat and repeated lifting. The incumbent must have good vision, reaction reflexes and depth perception. Physical demands require coordination for hand, eye and body. The incumbent must exert physical effort related to actions such as lifting and carrying heavy loads (10-100 pounds), pushing, pulling, carrying objects of various weights, sizes and shapes, walking, climbing, crawling and bending. Work Environment: Work is performed in all kinds of environments from an office setting to project sites in rough and steep terrain. Field work involves vehicular and foot access and may involve accessing remote areas. Temperatures many range from below zero to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Weather may include periods of rain, snow and heavy winds. Wearing of the authorized BLM uniform is optional during field work.
