About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK.
This is a Regular Full-Time position.
Regular Full-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 35 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Duties
Performs significant labor involved with recreational equipment, campgrounds, and facility grounds maintenance. Operates forklift to move
trailers and campers, operates snow blowers, generators, riding lawn mowers and similar types of specialized motorized equipment and require
constant attention to working space and environment. Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage,
and disengage components or attached devices when working around: electrical, snowy, icy, slippery, dusty, and wet areas, fence lines, banks and
hillsides, trenches, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles.
Determines and selects the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish each phase of the work in the most productive and cost-effective manner. Completes all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases or detailed procedures (e.g., cleaning campers, doing minor repairs to campers' boats and other trailers, lights, air up tires, and staging equipment).
The laborer cleans campers, campgrounds, facility, removes snow in the winter from walkways and designated areas puts down ice melt and uses hand tools when needed and may be asked to operate other equipment. Assists with conducting routine inspection and minor maintenance checks on ODR equipment, vehicles, rental equipment, and hand tools. Maintenance may include oil changes, battery checks, filling tanks with gasoline, checking fluid levels, hoses, and filters, and replacing lights. Assists with the upkeep of equipment to make sure things are in good mechanical and safe operating condition.
Document and report mechanical/safety issues. During winter season, this position may be tasked with assisting with snow removal for other activities. Maintain snow by clearing doors in the winter and around certain areas that have been designated to be clean and clear. Assist with regular operations and report any issues that may arise to lead mechanic or Mechanic Supervisor.
Assists front counter with checking in & out equipment as needed, to include loading and unloading of bouncy houses, lawn mowers, generators,
weed trimmers, and various other rental equipment. Be alert at all times for unsafe conditions, mechanical malfunctions and possible injury to
customers and co-workers through their own negligence. Answers a variety of questions from patrons on equipment operations.
Advises supervisor of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of equipment operation. Follows procedures as defined in the SOP. Keep area of responsibility in a high state of cleanliness both inside and outside. Keep shop and work area organized and help to manage workflow in an efficient manner. Perform a variety of maintenance work at ODR and other areas as directed and needed.
Cleans bathhouses at campsites, latrines, campers, and trailers. Makes minor repairs to boats, tables, grills, life preservers and other equipment rented out by ODR.
May occasionally assist with roads and grounds clearing parking/storage lots, mowing grass, removing overgrown bushes and shrubs, fills and level
holes, or use motorized paint sprayer to line RV storage lot. Provide superior service to customers (internal and external) at all times. Follow the
ODR Etiquette and Guidelines while interacting with the customers and responds to all customers and co-workers in a courteous, efficient manner.
Provides assistance to customers by answering questions about facilities, giving directional information, setting up camping/party/playground
areas and equipment, explaining rules and regulations etc.
Enforces safety, hygiene and health standards, policies, and regulations. Load, unload, or relocate heavy or bulky equipment including but not limited to: 10-place kayak trailers, rafting/ATV trailers, boats utilizing 1 Ton vehicle.
Load/offload utility trailers with variety of outdoor equipment. Operate various heavy equipment and/or vehicles to locations both on and off base
in a variety of weather conditions. Conduct assigned tasks and operate assigned equipment and vehicles in a safe manner. Perform other related
duties as assigned.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the incumbent to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires the incumbent to be at least 18 years of age or older.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of: large, complex equipment/machinery and similar types of specialized mowing equipment; skill in operating various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage and disengage components or attached devices; skill in controlling and maneuvering large, complex mowing equipment; ability to independently complete assignments involving several steps, phases or procedures; ability to follow written and/or oral instructions; ability to lift and move heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds.
