About the Position: This position is located within the US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Security Office where you will function as the Security Officer representing the Commander in matters concerning Security and directing, planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and managing programs designed primarily to protect personnel, classified and sensitive unclassified defense information, material, operations, and/or facilities from compromise.

Duties

Assign work to functional staff members in accordance with established organization mission and functions, workload fluctuations and personnel availability. Brief the Commander and other leaders on the status of security and law enforcement matters. Provide staff management and supervision of the District's personnel security program including security clearances, personnel reliability and classified access programs. Plan and coordinate procedures for implementation of the District's Information Security Program. Plan, develop and implement the District’s physical security program covering 45,000 square miles, including 45 lock/dam and flood control projects, warehouses, repair fleet, repair station and construction field sites. Review completed personnel investigations for the purpose of providing recommendations on pre-employment and continued employment considerations, issuance of security clearances, or placement of personnel in sensitive positions. Advise and assist the District staff in determining funding and accomplishing budgeting for security systems and personnel.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Position requires a pre-employment drug test and periodic screening thereafter.
  • This is a Security Professional Education Development (SPED) Certification Program position and requires Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within 24 months of entering on duty.

Specialized experience is defined as monitoring personnel and information security systems and programs; Developing detailed policies, guidance, programs and standard operating procedures in accordance with applicable regulations for personnel security and information security; Performing periodic reviews and security inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above).
