This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman to master level knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.
Duties
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision for the Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-10 position. Experience must be demonstrated in at least two of the following trades: Masonry, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, Utilities Systems Repair-Operator and Engineering Equipment Operator.
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
Perform maintenance, repair, restoration, and stabilization of cultural resources.to various audiences to inform or educate.
Modify or repair existing utility, supply, and disposal systems such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems or showers.
Install floor coverings such as tile, linoleum, and carpet.
Install, maintain, and repair commercial and residential plumbing systems.
Use accepted trade methods and techniques, such as wiping and pouring lead joints, seating equipment, and installing any combinations of couplings.
Evaluate conditions of surface to be covered and selects surface preparation techniques considering the type and exposure and expected conditions of use prior to painting.
Paint, decorate, and refinish a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices and buildings, family dwellings and other structures, finishing, and equipment.
Perform masonry work such as maintain, repair, construct, and/or stabilize historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures.
Select the proper tools, determine materials to be used, and accomplish masonry work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices with no technical assistance.
Install, repair and maintain solution tanks, pressure tanks, valves, mixed media filters, and reciprocating pumps associated with surface water and well water operations.
Monitor water plant pumping equipment; regulate the amount of water coming in from one or more sources; read meters, gauges and charts and record readings and prepare reports.
Install new roofs, including metal flashing, gutters, and other roofing accessories.
Determine roofing work to be completed by locating leaks and determining their cause and extent of damage.
Use measuring devices and test equipment such as multimeters, meggers, continuity checkers, manometers, and other special purpose test equipment to adjust, measure and record data.10. Assists the public in planning visits to and recommending activities in the area.
Measure, cut, bend, and solder pipe according to measurements specified in the work order, sketches, or measurements.
Properly mark and cut lumber to dimension.
Operate various carpentry equipment and tools (e.g., routers, band and scroll saws, and drill presses, etc.) to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable appearance.
Operate power equipment such as sanders and buffers in preparing surfaces for finishing.
Use masonry tools such as trowels, floats, joint runner, gauge lines, spirit levels, plumb bobs, air hammers, hand hammers, chisels, etc.
Use of plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, and lead pots to complete plumbing projects.
Work from complex instructions, blueprints, sketches and building codes to complete maintenance tasks.
Work from building plans, blueprints, and sketches to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope fall, and proper operation of plumbing systems and equipment.
Plan, compute, and lay out projects to identifies material needs.
Plan materials, tools, and techniques needed for maintenance tasks and complete work with little or no advice.
Select, mix and tint paint, stain, varnish and preservatives.

SCREEN OUT: Have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level, provide technical recommendations for methods, tools, and materials used in these trades as well as plan, layout all work to be completed and ensure proper selection of materials and manpower for the completion of projects. Performed at this level in two of the following trades: Masonry, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, Utilities Systems Repair-Operator and Engineering Equipment Operator.
