Duties

As a Science Officer you will: Prepare or review the preparation of all reports, articles, or monographs describing findings from studies or projects conducted as part of research and services programs. Develop new and innovative methods of dissemination of documents prepared by professional staff in the Division, in other Centers, and from the research organizations. Review and clear documents and other materials for public dissemination according to the procedures set forth by the organization and the individual Centers, reviewing for accuracy, scientific merit, and adherence to agency policy Serve as advisor to the Associate Director for Science/Science Officer, Division Director, and Deputy Division Director on scientific matters Direct and provide expert advice for the development and implementation of public health systems, including disease surveillance and reporting processes and systems Represent the Division at intramural and extramural meetings with representatives of other Federal agencies, State and local agencies, public health organizations, labor, industry, etc., concerning these programs to strengthen the scope and quality of the division's activities

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: reviewing epidemiologic studies, surveys, reports, presentations, proposals, or directing complex scientific, technical, and programmatic epidemiological activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.
