This position is in the Office of Research and Development, Center for Environmental Measurement and Modeling, Gulf Ecosystem Measurement and Modeling Division, Ecosystem Dynamics and Effects Branch. Qualifications

NOTE:  You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify for the Research GS-12 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level defined as conducting research (i.e., formulating hypotheses, developing research plans, adapting existing methods/techniques) in climate change impacts and/or environmental modeling; analyzing data and/or communicating research results; Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position; equivalent combination of education and experience. To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time* experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as conducting independent research in environmental modeling and/or climate change impacts; analyzing data; managing technical progress of contracted research; and communicating research results in peer-reviewed publications. Your application package will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of integrated estuarine,atmospheric, riverine, and watershed modeling and system ecology; 2) Knowledge and skills in computing or coding with shell scripts, R, Fortran, C++, IDL, MATLAB, or Python; 3) Skill in interpreting scientific data; 4) Skill in written communication; 5) Ability to lead and train a team of researchers; 6) Skill in oral communication; 7) Ability to develop plans and program initiatives to support establishment of new scientific standards; 8) Ability to manage contracts including preparing procurement requests and monitoring technical performance. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
