You will serve as a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC LEADER in the Electrical/Electronics Shop (Code 950), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will coordinate work while assuring proper inter-trade and inter-shop coordination, high levels of quality assurance with timely yet orderly job completion. You will demonstrate proper work methods, provide on the job training for workers, correct improper electronics work methods, and ensure assigned work procedures are being followed. You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping while assuring timely tool, equipment, material, and procedure availability. You will utilize information from blueprints, sketches, and work documents to plan and execute the sequence of work tasks. You will understand the accepted methods of troubleshooting and repair of complex electronics circuits, including printed circuits.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Troubleshooting and repairing complex electronic equipment; Reading, utilizing, and working from complicated blueprints, diagrams, technical manuals, and electronic schematic; Proficient in the use of all electronic troubleshooting equipment; Restoring and testing electronic equipment including radars and gyros; and the ability to plan and execute sequence work.
