You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Supply Management Department within the Warehouse Operations Branch of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO.
Duties
You will unload, receive, and process incoming hazardous materials.
You will prepare HAZMAT for routine deliveries throughout the base.
You will properly route, process, and stow materials in the correct location.
You will store, stack, and palletize items based on their use, size, shape quantity, compatibility and hazardous material category.
You will complete paperwork and/or documentation to complete warehousing transactions, with reviews done manually or electronically.
You will Identify material as hazardous waste (HAZWASTE) based upon shelf-life expiration, container degradation, and spillage.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift Operator license.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response 24-hour and an annual 8-hour refresher, Initial Hazard Communication Standard (HAZCOM), Fall Protection and Respirator Training and Fit-Test.

The ability to perform the work of a Materials Handler as demonstrated by experience, working independently, unloading, receiving, and processing incoming hazardous material (HAZMAT); reporting material overages, shortages and any damaged conditions; storing, stacking, and palletizing items based on their use, size, shape, quantity, compatibility and hazardous material category; properly staging and loading HAZMAT onto vehicles for material transport; maintaining the Authorized Usage Lists (AUL); making additions, deletions, and modifications as required; performing HAZMAT locker assessments for all tenant commands and providing remedial training and guidance when failures or discrepancies are observed; identifying material as hazardous waste (HAZWASTE) based upon shelf-life expiration, container degradation, and spillage.
