About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, Georgia, and Birmingham, Alabama, just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Determine that proper firefighting methods and techniques are employed in extinguishing flames. Administer the personnel management program. Develop plans, procedures, methods, and techniques to provide an efficient and effective fire fighting force. Serve as Shift Supervisor and Assistant Fire Chief, directing the activities of firefighters, dispatchers, and fire protection specialists. Ensures that Basic Life Support training is scheduled on an annual basis in order to keep employees certified in all phases of emergency medical services and to assure current state and local certification.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and keep current a valid state and federal driving permit.
  • This position requires possession of a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s Identification Card, OF-346.
  • This position requires the incumbent to sign a DA 5019 and submit to a pre-employment drug test and random drug testing, thereafter, as outlined in the AR 600-85.
  • May be required, to participate in Chemical Accident/Incident Response and Assistant (CAIRA) situations and serve on teams dedicated to controlling CAIRA situations after being trained for particular duty involved.
  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to submit a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE-450, upon entering the position and annually.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work a 72 -hour work week, that require ten hours productive time in each 24-hour shift.
  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.5M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • This position is a Mission Essential (ME) position. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent must continue to perform the ME duties until relieved by proper authority.

NOTE: Required Certificates (You must submit copies of the required certifications with your application): In addition to the above specialized experience definition/requirement, this position requires the incumbent to possess, at the time of appointment the following certifications for the noted grades. These certifications must have been awarded by the DoD, IFSAC, or Pro-Board accredited training to meet this requirement. If you do not submit all of the above certifications with your application package, you will be rated ineligible and your application will receive no further consideration. NOTE: This position requires that the incumbent possess and maintain the following DoD IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications. Firefighter Certifications Required: DoD Fire Inspector III, Fire Instructor III, and Fire Officer III and HAZMAT Incident Commander. Must possess a current National Register Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (NREMTP) Certifications. NOTE: This position has been identified by Department of Army and approved by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness as a secondary position for special retirement coverage as identified in 5 CFR 831 Sub-part I for CSRS Retirement coverage and 5 CFR 842 Sub-part H for FERS retirement coverage. Coverage under Special Retirement Coverage is NOT automatic. However, an employee may bring their existing special retirement coverage with them if they meet the transfer requirements below. CSRS - Per CSRS and FERS Handbook, Subchapter 46A, Section 46A3.2-1C - The employee, while covered under the special provision, moves directly (that is, without a break in service exceeding 3 days) from a primary position to a secondary position; and if applicable, the employee has been continuously employed in a secondary position or positions since moving from a rigorous position without a break in service exceeding 3 days. FERS - Per CSRS and FERS Handbook, Subchapter 46B, Section 463.2-1C 1.The employee, while covered under the special provision, moves directly (that is, without a break in service exceeding 3 days) from a rigorous position to a secondary position; 2. The employee has completed 3 years of service in a rigorous position, including any such service during which no FERS deductions were withheld; and 3. If applicable, the employee has been continuously employed in a secondary position or positions since moving from a rigorous position without a break in service exceeding 3 days. NOTES: 1. Service as a temporary or intermittent employee may be counted toward the 3-year requirement if it is otherwise qualifying. (While under an intermittent tour of duty, only actual days worked are counted.) For purposes of applying the 3-year requirement, it does not matter whether the service is actually made creditable by payment of a deposit or whether the service cannot be made creditable. Thus, even post-1998 non-deduction service (which can never be creditable under FERS for the purpose of qualifying for or computing a benefit can be used to meet the 3-year requirement. Also, Federal service under another retirement system for Government employees may be used to meet the 3-year requirement if it is otherwise qualifying. 2. A break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause) within the meaning of 5 U.S.C. 8414(b)(21)(A) is continuous for this purpose.
