Duties

THIS IS A T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION The primary purpose of the MUSEUM CURATOR, GS-1015-12, is to maintain historical material culture pertaining to the State; to facilitate the education of soldiers, Army civilians and the public through education, exhibitions, and public programs in cooperation with the State Historian; to develop and maintain professional networks through membership and participation in professional organizations; to serve as a liaison with appropriate state offices and with allied professionals at the Federal, state, and local levels. This position is non-supervisory.

Qualifications

MUSEUM CURATOR, GS-1015-12: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector, but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the GS grade indicated. Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by: performing highly creative or outstanding research that has led or can lead to major advances in a specific area of research, to a major advance in the discipline or field of science involved, or to major advances in science in general, can be rated under this provision for highly demanding research positions requiring similar abilities; Experience in planning, administering and managing state museum, exhibits, or historical collection in accordance with state policy; Experience in the development of museum exhibits, plans the state, territory, or district-level educational and interpretive programs which are presented to interpret objects, and experience in public programming, including informative tours of the museum or exhibits. Education

A degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field or Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education or Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above.

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work required.
