What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled as a Supervisory Physical Scientist or a Supervisory Geographer. This position is not remote.

Qualifications

For GS-14: In addition to the basic education requirement in either the professional geographer or physical sciences series, as stated above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-14 level: One year of appropriate professional experience is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service, the experience is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include significant experience to provide expert scientific or technical advice in the physical sciences or geographic fields, significant experience in delegated management of aspects of a USGS science center, including activities typically assigned to a GS13 level employee, project leadership for center-wide capabilities, significant supervisory experience across a range of center support staff, broad knowledge of USGS, DOI, OMB, and OPM operational requirements and assets, DEIA and related activities, and the ability to assess best approaches to solving technical and operational issues when a situation or problem is controversial, unclear, or uncertain, and whose evaluations and recommendations were accepted by others as an expert in the physical sciences or geographic fields At this level, physical scientists and geographers typically represent an authoritative source of consultation for other scientists and program specialists, are called upon to resolve issues that significantly affect programs, make long range and controversial proposals and defend their findings and recommendations in public or high-level forums. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
