This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Nursing Resources, at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. This position provides supervisory coverage for the facility, bed control and staff management for coverage of patient care; collaborates and coordinates admissions, discharges and transfers of patients.
Duties

Serves as Tour Supervisor performing the full range of administrative and clinical duties as well as provides consultative work within the Gallup Service Unit.
Coordinates bed management between the emergency department, clinics, inpatient units and other Indian Health Service (IHS) or Contract facilities. Utilizes the patient acuity and classification systems by collecting data. Submit daily tour reports to the Nurse Executive Team and Executive Management Team.
Plans, organizes, directs and reviews work and administering employee matters in absence of the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) or Unit Supervisor. Manages patient flow for admissions, discharges and transfers.
Collaborate with Administrator on call when issues cannot be resolved or when the need arise to obtain additional assistance to provide nursing care, services and treatment after hours and on weekends. Participates in management by walking rounds to ensure continuity of nursing care is provided safely and routinely performing concurrent patient chart audit to ensure compliance.
Works collaboratively with all co-workers, peers, subordinates, superiors, internal and external customers, to achieve the goals and missions of the hospital and the IHS.
Participates in hospital-wide Performance Improvement projects and activities to assure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, other accreditation agencies and nursing standards/practices and policies. Actively participates in performance improvement focusing on outcomes on care, treatment and services utilizing the Nursing Performance Plan. Participates in sentinel events as the need arises.
Educates and assist staff with performance improvement requirements and reviews work status along with progress on an ongoing basis. Counsels, advises and provides resources for employees and provides documentation to immediate supervisor as necessary.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-010 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing education program or related medical science field; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-10 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assess, plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in a hospital facility setting; prepare work performance plans, coordinates patient care and support activities to ensure smooth hospital operation for admissions, discharges, and transfers; collaborates with leadership to assure compliance with Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), etc.
