This position is in the AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) organization which is a full-time, team based residential program for men and women ages 18 to 26. The program is designed to strengthen communities and develop leaders through direct, team-based community service. Corps members are assigned to 1 of 4 campuses located in CO; CA; MS & IA. Teams complete projects that address community needs. During the 10-month term, Corps members receive lodging, transportation, & meals.

Duties

This position is located in the Department of the Chief Program Officer, AmeriCorps NCCC in Vicksburg, MS. Together with the Deputy Region Director for Unit Leadership (DRD/UL), the Assistant Unit Leader provides leadership and administrative support to facilitate the effective supervision of Team Leaders and Corps members in the accomplishment of assigned service projects. Primary duties include: Participating with the DRD/UL and Unit Leaders in the oversight of Team Leaders and Corps members engaged in service projects. For example, assisting with the coordination of service project goals; participating in, and/or conducting project site visits; working with the DRD/UL and Unit Leaders in conflict resolution and mentoring activities, monitoring physical training programs. Contributing to the Corps member or project problem resolution process by proposing potential solutions. Participating in the review of Team Leader reports, project portfolios, and team publications. Contributing to the design and evaluation, and conducting segments of training programs. Coordinating with Unit Leaders and the DRD/UL to update the weekly deployment schedule. Managing site visit travel, as well as tracking Corps member travel expenditures to verify that expenditures are within budget and that all charges are allowable. With oversight from the DRD/UL, may provide basic supervision to 1 or 2 Team Leaders. Accomplishing a variety of administrative activities including but not limited to: preparing a variety of correspondence, including confidential Member disciplinary correspondence; coordinating with the Member Support Specialists regarding member travel, producing reports, maintaining files; assembling briefing, training, and presentation materials.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the lower range of the NY-02 pay band, which would be at or equivalent to, the GS-7 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include all of the following: 1) Experience leading, monitoring, or coaching others, or assigning work to others; 2) Work experience conducting training sessions or presenting information to groups of people; and 3) Work experience providing general administrative support to an organization, including experience working with spreadsheets, word processing, and SharePoint. Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education, you must have: a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D. Such education must be from an accredited institution and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your college transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards. You may also qualify based on a combination of education and experience, if applicable.
