THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (TITLE 5), Position Description Number NGT5259000 and is part of the TN ARMY Army National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter).

Duties

As a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT, GS-2102-07, you will recognize, isolate, and resolve specific and general problems relating to proper utilization of common transportation services. Select modes of transportation and routing to obtain most efficient and economical service to the government in accordance with established policies and regulations. Participate in the development of procedures and studies on a variety of one-time movements, special cargo activities, and repetitive high-volume operations. Responsible for the inspection of commercial carriers' equipment before and after use. Receive requests for outbound Government Bills of Lading. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Applicant must complete a Baseline Pre-Placement Screening for General Schedule positions within 30 days of appointment.
• Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
• For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
• Irregular and overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
• The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
• The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle and if so, an appropriate valid driver's license is required.
• This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training interpreting, explaining, and/or applying basic rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a transportation program. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 12 months experience, education, or training arranging and interpreting directives and regulations governing transportation of personnel, cargo or freight. Experience applying directives and regulations governing transportation of personnel, cargo or freight. Experience verifying legal entitlements or official authorizations for travel, securing from carriers guides and timetables, information regarding schedules, fares, and availability of space accommodations. Experience planning and organizing the work of others.
