The primary purpose of this position is to inspect, maintain, modify, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and test aircraft fuel systems fuel tanks, hardware and components.
Duties
- Receives work document(s) or oral instructions regarding problem with aircraft fuel system
- Troubleshoots integral fuel tanks, using leak path analysis and other test procedures such as pressure checks, vacuum checks, dye injection checks, helium and argon gas checks, etc., to determine the source of fuel leaks.
- Troubleshoots integral and body fuel tanks to determine location of leaks. In performing duties uses a variety of common hand tools, combustible and toxic gas indicators, torque wrenches, leak detectors, pressure gauges, manometers, powered tools such as drills and pneumatic wrenches; also, operates AGE such as blowers, filters, vacuum cleaners, heaters, air conditioners, fire extinguishers, etc.
- Accomplishes modifications and prepares components for storage or shipment
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

- Pushes stands, stoops, bends, stretches, and works in cramped, tiring, and uncomfortable positions. Subject to high intensity and higher frequency sounds that impose a physical burden.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8200, Fluid Systems Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT PNEUDRAULIC SYSTEMS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to install, overhaul, repair or fabricate aircraft fuel systems, equipment and accessories and ability to test and calibrate complete aircraft fuel systems.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities and limitations of aircraft fuel systems and ability to troubleshoot aircraft fuel systems equipment of moderate complexity.
3. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders and ability to follow oral and written instructions, to read and interpret a variety of technical data.
4. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security, ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment and skilled in the use of standard hand and power tools of the trade.
5. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.
6. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception.
