The Social Services Aid is located at the Tomah, Wisconsin Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a complexity level 3 facility and aligned under the Mental Health Service, Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program.
Duties
Duties include:
Observes behaviors and reports concerns to treatment or recovery team in a timely manner.
Ensures the safety and security of Veterans in the program through monitoring and reinforcing the rules and regulations of the RRTP.
Greets and receives patients, answers routine in person or telephone inquiries.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Incumbent logs information related to safety and security.
Conduct rounds/inspections for compliance with safety and security within the RRTP.
Operates a variety of communications and security equipment; such as 2-way radio, landline, duress buttons.
Acts as a witness to periodic Urine Drug Screen (UDS) testing.
Administers breathalyzer test and maintains the equipment.
Thoroughly checks all packages for contraband that is brought to RRTP.
Conducts room and house inspections for contraband, health welfare, safety and security purposes and documents findings in the appropriate locations.
Work Schedule: Multiple shifts available and will be discussed at interview.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/04/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-03 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-02. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on education and/or experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-02 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Monitor and take appropriate action regarding the safety and security of Veterans from threat of injury due to criminal acts, protection of personal and government property and directing response to security and life safety communications, telephone, fire and security computer system.
