You will serve as a Machinist Work Leader in the Machinery Division, Repair Department at TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.
Duties
You will provide technical guidance to civilian and military personnel in the execution of machinery repair.
You will provide oversight to a diverse group of machine shop personnel.
You will provide continuity, direction and set an efficient pace for fellow workers by providing guidance.
You will establish safe operations, standardized processes and provide technical assistance when needed to ensure optimal progression of work.
You will demonstrate initiative by instructing other workers to complete tasks assigned by supervision.
You will identify deficiencies and derive solutions to mitigate issues that prevent work delays and unsafe working conditions through effective communication to both management and team members.
You will verify work for quality, determine timelines and ensure that all work is being conducted in accordance with all technical procedures and all other governing regulations at Trident Refit Facility.
You will reinforce safe work practices and that good housekeeping rules are being followed at all times during your respective shift(s).
You will conduct inspections to confirm that all appropriate documentation is at the job site, correct tooling is available to perform first-time quality work and dimensional accuracy of parts are within plan specifications.
You will also perform the typical duties of a Machinist at the skill level at or comparable to a WG-3414-11 grade. Duties will consist of the manufacture and repair of submarine and surface ship components.
Requirements

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- The incumbent must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
- The position may require occasionally completing work from uncomfortable and cramped positions.
- The position may involve standing for long periods, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing. The incumbent must be able to climb vertical ladders, work platforms, staging and work shipboard.
- The incumbent must be able to identify color-coding of materials and heats of metals.
- The incumbent must have peripheral vision to allow for the avoidance of falls and moving objects.
- Shipboard operations may expose incumbent to industrial hazards such as dust, dirt, grease, oil, excessive noise and exposure to organic growths.
Qualifications
