Duties

Operate all types of fire-control instruments to determine malfunctions, diagnosis and/or repairs. Inspect small arms to determine serviceability and condition of repairs necessary. Inspect small arms to determine if parts need to be ordered or if repairs can be performed with field-level maintenance. Conduct operational checks and final inspections to ensure maintenance has been completed. Document inventory of small arms and small-arms repair parts to maintain accountability of weapons.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued ability to perform the duties of the position.

Perform repairs, replacements, and adjustments of parts and assemblies on a variety of small arms; testing and troubleshooting a variety of fire-control instruments such as aiming circles, binoculars, panoramic, observation telescopes and their mounts, and collimators - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts sub-assemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Incumbent often carries large parts, assemblies, or weapons weighing up to 50-60 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and long periods of standing. May be required to work in confined or awkward positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in well-lighted and ventilated shops with occasional trips to firing ranges. Exposure to excessive noise from test-firing weapons; possible injury due to handling tools and weapons; contact with dirt, grease, dust, solvents and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and sprains, as well as, to falls on slippery or inclined surfaces. Possibility exists of more serious injury when unloading jammed or misfired weapons, ricochet bullets, mis-handling of radiological items and acids.
