About the Position: Serves as a Testing Clerk with the Des Moines Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). The mission of the Des Moines MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services.

Duties

Handles accountable test material. Will be required to conduct test sessions at remote sites, to include administration of high school tests at inner city, rural, and/or at risk schools with large populations (greater than 100 students). Cross-trains in other functions of the Military Entrance Processing Stations, (MEPS) (such as processing) and performs these functions as required. Conducts aptitude and qualification examinations at the MEPS and Military Entrance Test (MET) sites for the applicants of the various Armed Services. Tests include the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) - ASVAB, and computer and paper and pencil special purpose tests. Ensures 100% security and accountability of all accountable test material when conducting test sessions. Assists in the conduct of test material inventories as required and ensures strict accountability and security of all testing materials.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or have ability to obtain a driver's license.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required (if the MEPS conducts night testing, this work will entail night shift work when the Test Clerk is the only employee in the building).
  • If applicable evenings: 1130-2000, Saturdays: 0530-1430, Sundays (if applicable): 1400-2000, Morning Opening Shift: 0530–1430.
  • Frequent local travel and occasional temporary duty (TDY) business travel may be required (may require hotel stay for multiple nights to meet mission requirements).
  • You may be expected to travel up to 25% for this position.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) administering aptitude and qualification examinations, scoring exams, performing quality control of exams and applicable applicant information; 2) using data management automated software and equipment, such as the Military Entrance Processing Command Integrated Resource System (MIRS) to maintain testing data and applicant information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.
