The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of complex and recurring duties in support of wildlife habitat on the unit.

Duties
As a leader, or part of a team, participates in the development of the unit wildlife project plans and program for habitat management.
Schedules, organizes, and executes field wildlife projects for detecting identifying and evaluating habitat management.
Resolves regular and recurring problems concerning wildlife project plans for habitat management.
Collects, complies and summarizes the data that is obtained on wildlife habitat and vegetation for preparation of wildlife species, range allotment, deer herd, and other maps and management plans.
Compiles and summarizes the data from aerial and ground surveys to determine vegetation types; conducts routine analyses; and biological and vegetation data.
Collects data for big game, upland game, raptors, small mammals, and threatened and endangered species. Subsequently, assists with development of reports after higher graded employees have refined and verified the data and analyzed the results.
Independently plans and conducts a variety of field studies of sensitive wildlife species to determine numbers, environmental conditions, and the condition of the species and its habitat.
Evaluate data and make recommendations for improvement of habitat or species. Data is collected in field locations, away from the unit.
Develops work plans to collect required data, determines recording requirements, and factors to use for complete habitat and species condition analyses.
Utilizes government equipment, computer systems and associated software for recording, storing and analyzing data.

Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-05: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following. provided technical support in a wildlife management field environment by organized wildlife-related data; collected field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; and maintained records of findings or results of biological science tests and procedures.
OR
a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics and at least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled such as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management and zoology;
OR
a combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
For the GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Completed wildlife habitat project work, and/or assessed wildlife habitat environments, requirements, and inhabitants; Collected field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for habitat management and improvement plans; Compiled biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys to determine vegetation type, wildlife and livestock use.
OR
one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position such as: mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management and zoology;
OR a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university
For the GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following Inspected wildlife habitat and/or nested sites and collected field data on wildlife habitat and vegetation, species condition, location, and status for the preparation of maps and habitat management and improvement plans; Compiled and summarized biological data obtained from aerial and ground surveys to determine vegetation type, wildlife and livestock use; and/or identify and evaluate habitat management;
OR
one full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position such as: mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management and zoology;
OR
a combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
